Founded in holland by Cees Wessels (who still serves as CEO), roadrunner records began in 1980 as roadracer records, initially focusing on importing US metal into europe. Through the 1980s and 1990s roadrunner became one of the largest heavy metal indie labels until 2006, when 74% of company shares were bought by warner.
